Abstract

628,739. Hinges; hasp-fastenings. BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1946, No. 5812. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1945. [Classes 44 and 65 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] In a lighting fixture comprising a light transmitting cover adapted to fit in an inset seat around the open face of a reflector housing hinge means provided for guiding the cover into its seat is adapted to cause the edge of the cover adjacent thereto to travel substantially perpendicularly to its seat in its initial and final movements, when the cover is swung open and closed. The housing may be provided with wing members 33, Fig. 4, each pair having a fixed transverse pin 34 and a second pin 37 movable in vertical slots 36. The pin 37 also passes through a pair of wing members 38 attached to the cover 18, each wing member having a cam surface comprising a flat portion 42 and a circular portion 41. Hooked round the pin 37 is a flat spring strip 43 attached to the housing so as to support the cover resiliently with the pin 37 in the middle of the vertical slots 36 when the cover is closed. When the cover is opened however, the surfaces 41 engage against the pin 34 causing the pin 37 to move vertically downwards to the end of the slots 36 so that the cover edges descend and the cover may be opened without damage. The free edge of the cover may be held by spring toggle clamps, each clamp comprises a latch 60, Fig. 1, pivoted at its lower end to a wire spring ring 63 adapted to be held in a bracket 65 of the housing 10.
