Abstract
628,262. Frame structures. MAXON, G. Aug. 19, 1946, No. 24653. [Class 20(ii)] [Also in Groups XV and XXVIII] A frame structure for scaffolding, trusses, toys and models &c. is assembled from lengths of helically deformed tubing 8-11, Fig. 2 connected by helically deformed fittings 12-16 which permit an entire length of the tubing to be screwed through the fittings. Fig. 2 shows the two end panels of a series of connected trusses forming a framework for a roof, the tubing and fittings being constructed in three correlated diameters, i.e. standard, oversize and undersize. The tubings 8-11 are of standard size while the fittings 12-16 are of oversize tubing and have branches perpendicular to the plane of the panels to enable a series of trusses to be connected together. The connections 18 for the lower ends of the diagonals 11 are made by means of interengaging nipples 20, 21 threaded into a branch of the fitting 13 and the diagonal 11 respectively, a coupling 22 being threaded over the connection. Fittings made in complementary sections may be used as a means for the attachment of bracing members to an assembled framework. The T-shaped fitting 30, Figs. 5, 6 for joining the end of the bracing member 31 to the side of a tube 32, is split upon the plane containing the axes of its branches to form complementary sections 34 which are applied to the exterior of the tubes without requiring threading of the tubes thereto. The stem portions of the fitting are secured together and to the tube 31 by a coupling 35 threaded over the stem portions. The complementary sections may be hinged along their adjacent edges remote from the stem portions and in a further modification hingedly connected complementary sections, not integral with the stem portions, are provided with trunnions 38, Fig. 8, and the stem portions 39 are pivotally connected with the trunnions 38 by arms 40 extending from the sides of the stem portions. Trunnions may be incorporated on any of the fittings for attachment of wire braces &c. and a coupling tube may be provided with trunnions for pivotally connecting braces &c. by means of split sections. U.S.A. Specification 2,294,240 is referred to.
