627,460. Packing. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Aug. 6; 1947, No. 21445. Convention date, June 15, 1940: [Class 94(i)] In a method of packaging with a heatstretchable and heat-sealable film such as a sheet 1 of rubber-hydrochloride, wherein the film is stretched into a cavity 3 by a plunger 8 and held there by vacuum while the material is placed in the stretched film, and wherein the package is completed by twisting the stretched film relative to the unstretched film, the vacuum is released after twisting is completed. The film is held over the cavity 3 by a ring 7 held to a bed plate 11 by coil springs 10. A heated plate (not shown) may be used to heat the portion of film to be stretched and vacuum is applied through a pipe 6 to a chamber 4 connected by passages 5 to the cavity 3, the strength of the applied vacuum being varied to regulate the tightness of the finished package. A screen or fabric liner is used to prevent the film from being sucked into the openings 5. By means of a plurality of plungers a number of packages may be formed simultaneously.
