625,659. Hydraulic presses. BOURSET, R. A. Nov. 23, 1945, No. 31642. Convention date, Dec. 6, 1944. [Class 69 (ii)] A hydraulic press has a series of fluid. operated intensifying pistons, the sequence of operation of which can be adjusted to make the pressure growth correspond to the work in hand. Compressed air supplied to the inlet 8 operates first the piston 5 to feed the toolcarrying piston 7 to contact the work. Subsequently, the piston 6 closes the port 14 and then pistons 1, 2, 3 and 4 are operated to increase the hydraulic pressure in the conduit 15. The sequence of operation of these pistons is adjusted by the needle valves 23, 24, 25 and 26. The exhaust from the air cylinders is controlled by the piston valve 21: In a modified arrangement the pistons are arranged so that the first opens an air supply passage to the subsequent cylinder when it reaches the end of its stroke. The sequence can be altered by three-way valves in each cross-passage.
