Abstract
791,483. Jointing by stamping. CORNER & CO., Ltd., G. Oct. 15, 1956 [Nov. 7, 1955], No. 31722/55. Class 83 (4). A crimping tool comprises a pair of relatively movable dies 7 and 9 the die 7 being actuated by a piston 5 in a hydraulic cylinder 1 to which hydraulic fluid is supplied by a hydro-pneumatic intensifier 2. The piston 5 is spring-loaded and attached to the die 7 by a rod 8. The intensifier consists of cylinders 11 and 12 each being provided with pistons 13 and 14 respectively interconnected by a rod 15. An oil pressure hose 3 connects the intensifier to the cylinder 1. In operation, movement of a lever 10 closes an outlet valve 16 and opens an inlet valve 17 to supply air pressure to operate the pistons 13 and 14. An intensified hydraulic pressure is transmitted by piston 14 via the hose to the piston 5 which is slightly larger than piston 14 but smaller than piston 13 and the piston 5 moves the die 7 towards the die 9 to effect the crimping operation. When the lever 10 is released the inlet valve 17 closes and the valve 16 opens to exhaust the cylinder 11 and a spring 21 returns piston 13 to its original position.
