391,573. Metal-working presses. DE BERGUE & CO., Ltd. and JACKSON, A. N., Strangeways Ironworks, Strangeways, Manchester. Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5317. [Class 83 (iv).] A hydraulically operated machine for riveting, punching, pressing, stamping and like operations comprises a cylinder B slidable under hydraulic pressure in the casing A in the opposite direction to a compressed air operated piston F slidable within the cylinder B. Compressed air is admitted to chambers a3 or b<6> on either side of a piston head B<2> on the cylinder B by a sliding valve H controlled by a trigger K, the other chamber being opened to atmosphere through a silencer. The admission of air to the chamber b<6> causes the piston F to move a rod G into a chamber a containing a liquid which is displaced to move the piston B<1> and cylinder B in the opposite direction to effect the working stroke of the tool head C. The piston and cylinder are returned when the chamber a<3> is opened to pressure and the chamber b<6> to exhaust. Riveting.-For a riveting operation the tools comprise a plate-clamping member E and a snap c<2> supported in the head C, the member E yielding against the action of a spring e after it has contacted the work. Stops b<3>, f<1> limit the movement of the piston F.
