Abstract

1414307 Percussive tools J M KENWORTHY 12 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 14001/72 Heading B4C [Also in Division B3] A press tool has a tool carrier 16 slidably mounted on a frame 14 and movable by a lever 20, the tool carrier having a percussive tool in a holder 42 which is mounted on the carrier with a lost motion connection. The lost motion connection is provided by a flange 46 on the rear of the holder movable in a spacing between a collar 44 and the carrier. An impact pin 48 is fitted to the holder and only projects into the cylinder 30 of the tool actuating device when the tool contacts a workpiece and the lost motion is taken up. The actuating device comprises a differential piston 32 whose upper surface is always pressurized and whose lower surface is alternately pressurized and vented. The venting is caused by a valve 58 opened by a plunger 54 engaging an adjustable stop 52.
