Abstract

509,322. Stamping. SHAW & SONS (SALFORD), Ltd., J., and SHAW, J. B. Jan. 21, 1938, No. 2007. [Class 83 (iv)] The pressure of each of the workholding rams c<1> to c<4> acting on the work-holder d is selected to give the requisite slip, e.g. in deep drawing, by connecting each ram cylinder to the desired pressure stage of a multistage centrifugal pump a and so that in case of pump failure all the workholders yield proportionately. Each stage of the pump, e.g. a<1> to a' is connected to duplicate stop cocks n and m and header pipes two to four pipes h<1> to h' supplying water through a valve e<1> to the respective rams c<1> &c., so that the pressure in each pipe can be selected from any requisite pressure stage in the pump. The rams c<1> are put in operation or exhausted by its appropriate valve el, all the valves e<1> to e<4> being operated through a common rod f operated by hand admission of pressure to cylinder g. The drawing-ram u is operated by the high-pressure stage through the valve w and all the cylinders exhaust into a reservoir a<8>.
