Abstract

625,017. Electromagnetic interrupters. STEVENS, A. H. (Submarine Signal Co.). Jan. 30, 1946, No. 2966. [Class 38(v)] An electromagnetic interrupter or vibrator specially for converting D.C. into A.C. comprises a ribbon 2 fixed at its ends and carrying armatures 16, 17 co-operating with electromagnets (not shown) arranged in series. Contacts such as 56, 58 are mounted on the ribbon between the armature and co-operate with fixed contacts above and below and the arrangement is such that the ribbon vibrates in sections with a node at the region of the contacts. The amplitude at this region is a minimum but is sufficient to operate the contacts. One pair of cooperative contacts are " driving " contacts, serving to interrupt the electromagnet circuit and to maintain the ribbon in vibration. The tension of the ribbon is adjustable.
