[Class 41] [Also in Groups XII, XXII and XXVI] Hollow metal articles intended to be subjected to high temperatures such as hollow blades or flame tubes for gas turbines are made by electrodepositing successive layers of metals such as nickel, chromium, cobalt, iron, molybdenum, tungsten, zirconium, niobium, tantalum, titanium, vanadium or manganese, on a thermoplastic former such as dental wax, Rose's metal or Wood's metal or a former of friable material such as porous plasters, cements or unglazed porcelain and then removing the former as by heat or disintegration and subjecting the article to high temperature treatment to cause interdiffusion of the metals. A layer may be composed of cobalt and nickel deposited simultaneously to form a homogeneous binary. In an example, the successive layers may be chromium and nickel or chromium, nickel and cobalt or nickel, chromium and a homogeneous binary of nickel and cobalt. In the formation of a flame tube, a layer of copper forms the substratum for the subsequent layers, for example the layers may be copper, nickel, chromium, nickel and cobalt. At an intermediate stage and at the final stage of electrodeposition, the article may be subjected to a carburizing or nitriding operation.
