Abstract
In a method of coating alloys of Mo, Nb, Ta, W, Ni, Co, Cr with a ceramic material an intermediate coating is formed by diffusion in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. A Nb-W-Mo alloy is packed in a powder mixture of Si, Fe, Cr and heated to 1100 DEG C. in I2, H2 mixture then in I2, A mixture to form a Nb disilicide layer. Alternatively a Ti, Cr, Fe or Al layer may be formed. A coating of Al2O3 is then formed by heating the substrate in a fluidized bed in a stream of steam and AlCl3; the bed may contain SiO2 when an alumina-silicate is deposited. The ceramic coating may be deposited by spraying or brushing on powder and heating to 1300 DEG C.ALSO:In a method of coating alloys of Mo, Nb, Ta, W, Ni, Co, Cr with a ceramic material an intermediate layer is formed by diffusion in a non oxidizing atmosphere Nb disilicide, Ti, Cr, Al and Fe layers are referred to (see Division C7). A coating of Al2 O3 is then formed by heating the substrate in a fluidised bed in a stream of steam and AlCl3; the bed may contain SiO2 when an alumina-silicate is deposited. The ceramic coating may be deposited by spraying or brushing on powder and heating to 1300 DEG C.
