Abstract
622,703. Soldering. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and ROBINSON, G. B. Feb. 13, 1947, No. 4183. [Class 83 (iv)] Soldering is effected with a solder having a core or strand of high permeability metal such as iron by heating by induced high-frequency current, whereby the solder and waste parts. are heated to the melting point of the solder. Flux may be applied separately or as a core or strand of the solder. The iron, which has a small crosssection relatively to that of the solder, may be applied as a central core 2, surrounded by a flux core 3, the solder stick 1 being made by extrusion, moulding, &c. The iron core may be tinned or plated to make it adhere to the solder during the soldering operation. The iron core may be arranged parallel to the flux core and be contained within or project from the solder. Soldering is effected by applying the solder stick to a surface or joint of ferrous or non-ferrous metal and using a high-frequency coil to heat the high permeability metal so as to melt the solder resulting in a stronger joint on account of solidarity thereof and the reinforcing action of the iron wire. With large diameter solder, a number of cores of iron or like metal may be used and also a number of cores of flux.
