Abstract
620,848. Wireless receiving-sets. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. June 26, 1946, No. 19086. Convention date, June 27, 1945. Addition to 620,767. [Class 40 (v)] A thermionic valve amplifier, employing two discharge paths in parallel according to the parent Specification, incorporates a screen grid formed in two insulated parts 3, 3<1>, the latter co-operating with a part of the control grid 2 having uneven winding pitch to give a discharge path having low mutual conductance, and the other part 3 co-operating with an evenly wound part of the grid 2 to give a path with high mutual conductance. The screen grid 3 is connected to the screen grid 3<1> in the low mutual conductance path through a high resistance 10, and to the H.T. supply through a resistance 8. The input, together with a control voltage depending on its amplitude, is applied to the control grid 2. For high inputs, the high mutual conductance path is cut off, while for low inputs, the voltage drop, due to the current flowing in resistances 10, 8, is sufficient to cut off the low mutual conductance path.
