Abstract

619,730. Washing granular materials. GUISE, C. Dec. 21, 1946, No. 37624. [Class 82(ii)] In an apparatus for washing and classifying sand, in which a washing barrel rotates partially submerged in water and is associated with a bucket elevator, the washing barrel comprises a plane portion and a screen portion, both of tapering formation. As shown, sand or like granular material is introduced by a chute c into a plane washing barrel b provided with a mesh b', the barrel being partially immersed in water in a tank a. The sand which passes through the mesh is removed by a bucket elevator e, the bottom of which is situated below the mesh. The material which is retained on the mesh b' may be elevated by blades b<9>, deposited on a chute i, discharged into a second washing screen of tapering formation and classified by meshes b<6> and b<7>. Both barrels and the elevator may be driven from a synchronised common drive.
