Abstract
619,398. Dielectric heating. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1946, No. 36159. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1945. [Class 39 (iii)] A self-heating electrode for dielectric heating apparatus, comprises two metallic plates 4 and 6 spaced apart and electrically insulated from one another by insulators 8, and washers of dielectric material 9 such as asbestos. The upper metallic plate is connected to the output of a H.F. generator and the lower plate forms the operating surface of the composite electrode being heated by the dielectric heating within the asbestos washers 9. The washers 9 may partially or completely fill the space between the two metallic plates and the thickness of the dielectrical material may be varied to obtain different heating characteristics. Two self-heating electrodes may be used on either side of the substance to be heated, or if less power consumption is desired one electrode may be of the prior non-heating metallic plate type.
