614,149. Treating solids with liquids. BRITISH CELANESE. Ltd. July 10. 1946. No. 20624. Convention date. July 10, 1945. Addition to 556,942. [Class 82(i)] A modification of the apparatus for treating solid materials in particle form with liouids, as claimed in the parent Specification. comprises means for rotating the vessel 5 about an axis extending through each compartment and lifter members fixed in each compartment and actuated by rotation of the vessel, characterized in that each partition 11 is bent along a chord so that the partition has larger and smaller partitions joining at an obtuse angle which points in the direction of travel of the solid materials, the opening 14 in each partition, for the passage of solid materials is situated in the larger of the said portions and the lifter member 18 for solid materials between each pair of partitions secured to the smaller portions of the partitions so as to form a channel leading directly to such an opening. A shield 19 may be attached to an edge of the opening in each partition for the passage of solid materials, the said shield being pre ferably co-planer with the smaller portion of the partition to which it is so attached. It may, for example, be integral with the said partition and be of the same shape and dimensions as the opening in the partition for the passage of solid materials. A lifter member 24 is provided to closely follow the lifter member for solid material and to receive liquid drained therefrom and to discharge it into the preceding compartments through openings 23.
