Abstract

613,774. Flying-boat hulls. SAUNDERSROE, Ltd., and KNOWLER, H. July 2, 1946, No. 19747. [Class 4] The hull of a flying- boat comprises an upper pressure chamber 10 of circular or, as shown, of double circular section, with a flat pressure floor 16 constituting the base of the chamber and the top of the boat-shaped portion 11 of the hull, and supported on the planing bottom 18 through the agency of deep vertical Z-section beams 17. The portion of the hull below the floor is divided into water-tight compartments by transverse bulkheads 19, stiffened by vertical channel members 21, the beams 17 being connected to the bulkheads by angle cleats 22. The pressure chamber comprises an external skin 15 secured to a series of spaced arcuate channel-section members 12, 13 braced by horizontal channel members 14.
