Abstract
Ferro-chrome is produced in a continuous process in an electric arc furnace or in an electric high frequency induction furnace (see Group XII) by supplying to the furnace an initial charge of a small quantity of ferro-chrome, chromite ore and coke, silicon or silicon alloy and reducing the chromite by heat supplied to the charge and continuing the operation by running off slag in an arc furnace and adding further chromite ore and reducing agent as the operation proceeds, thus building up a bath of molten metal to the full capacity of the furnace, or by running off the molten metal from the bottom of a high frequency induction furnace which is continuously charged with further materials.
