Abstract

[Class 126] [Also in Groups X and XIII] In an open fireplace surrounded by an air-heating chamber, the chimney and the air-heating chamber 10 are sealed from each other by the use of a topplate 4, of metal or other material, covering the fireclay fireshell 3 and provided with a smoke outlet 8. The air-heating chamber 10 may be separated from the chimney by extensions of the top-plate across it, Fig. 2, or a plate 6 of asbestos cement carrying broken bricks 7 or similar material, Fig. 1, the sealing being completed in both cases by cement or fireclay and brickwork walls or sheet-metal 5. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, the air-heating chamber 10 and the chimney are separated at lintel level by a second plate 6 provided with an opening connected with the smoke outlet 8 in the top-plate 4 by a sheet metal channel 5.
