Abstract
Fuels for use in flame-throwers are prepared from petroleum products such as petrol or gas oil, benzole, and other oils by forming a gel by means of aluminium stearate, preferably prepared according to Specification 587,522, and modifying its structure to give greater fluidity by the addition of cresylic acid or an aliphatic alcohol or by a mixture of these substances. From 2 to 12 per cent of aluminium stearate (based on the weight of the fuel) is normally employed, and from 40 to 60 per cent of cresylic acid (based on the weight of aluminium stearate) is employed as the modifying agent. If it is desired to reduce the variation of viscosity with temperature in the composition, the cresylic acid may be mixed with a lower alcohol, e.g. in the proportion of 2 to 1 in the case of methyl alcohol or 1.5 to 1 for n-propyl alcohol.
