Abstract

A distillate fuel oil of boiling point 300 DEG -750 DEG F. contains a minor proportion of not less than 10 lbs. per thousand barrels of oil of a normal, aliphatic, primary monoamine containing 18 carbon atoms or a mixture of amines containing a predominant proportion of such amines, Amines referred to are n-octadecylamine, n-octadecenylamine and n-octadecadienylamine; suitable amines may be prepared from soya bean oil or tallow. Fuels specified are straight run fuel oils, catalytically or thermally cracked fuel oils, or mixtures thereof. Optional additives specified are silicones, dinitropropane, amyl nitrate and metal sulphonates. The compositions of the invention are compared with compositions containing various amines containing less than 18 carbon atoms and with secondary tertiary and branched chain amines, and cyclic amines.
