Abstract

610,650. Drag scrapers. BRITISH ENGINES, Ltd., and CHRISTIAN, G. R. July 12, 1946, No. 11318. [Class 68 (i)] A drag scraper, in which the scoop 12 is given a horizontal motion before being hoisted, has a snatch block 5 slidably attached to the hoist rope 4 of the crane structure 1 and from this block 5 a drag rope 6 is taken to a block 8 and thence to the operator. The block 8 may slide along the crane jib 3 to a suitable operating position and is provided with locking means which can grip the drag rope 6, the locking means being operated by a chain 9 and a rope 11. In use, the scoop is left at one side of the pile of material and the drag rope shortened and locked to the block 8 when the block 5 is above the position at which the scoop should be filled. On hoisting, the scoop moves first horizontally until beneath the block 5 and is then raised vertically.
