Abstract
Therapeutically active substituted ethylene diamines of the general formula <FORM:0604679/IV(b)/1> (wherein R2 represents an alkyl or aralkyl group) are manufactured by condensing an o -alkoxyor o -aralkoxy-ethylaniline with a b -dimethylamino-a -halogenoethane or by condensing N-phenyl-N1:N1-dimethylethylenediamine or its sodio derivative with an alkyl or aralkyl ether of an ethylene halohydrin. In examples: (1) N-b -ethoxyethylaniline is heated with a solution of b -dimethylamino-a -chlorethane in ether to produce N-b -dimethylaminoethyl-N-b 1-ethoxyethylaniline; (2) N-b -dimethylaminoethylaniline is heated with b -benzyloxyethyl chloride to give N-b -dimethylaminoethyl-N-b 1-benzyloxyethylaniline; (3) N-b -dimethylaminoethylaniline is agitated with sodamide and the product is agitated with the methyl ether of ethylene bromhydrin, with heating in the middle stages, yielding N-b -dimethylaminoethyl-N-b 1-methoxyethylaniline; (4) the same product is obtained by heating N-b -methoxyethylaniline with b -dimethylamino-a -chlorethane hydrochloride and neutralizing the product with caustic soda.
