Abstract
601,435. Gramophone pick-ups. OSMAN, D. E. Jan. 19, 1946, No. 1888. [Class 40 (iv)] In electrical sound recording or reproducing apparatus the tone head includes an armature having an axial bore to accommodate a stylus and located within a coil, and two pivots each having a hardened point engaging the armature and both lying along a common axis transverse to the axis of the armature and passing through its point of balance, the end of the armature remote from the stylus being located between the poles of a permanent magnet. In the example shown, the armature 27 is held by screw pivots 30 and the coil 33 is held to soft iron pole pieces 22 secured to a magnet 31. A rubber block surrounds the armature to render it self-centering. The former of coil 33 may be of brass and provided with slits which may be filled to varying degrees with solder to adjust its resistance to suppress electrical resonance. The bore in the armature may be D-shaped and the stylus is then of similar cross section.
