Abstract
597,973. Rusticating and sanding moulded bricks. BRISCOE, H. Oct. 6, 1945, No. 26074. [Class 87 (ii)] The apparatus described in Specification 503,028 for rusticating wire-cut bricks is modified to make it suitable for dealing with pressed bricks, by providing guide plates 11, 12 to retard the movement of the bricks so as to maintain them in a closed column formation in their movement through the apparatus. One plate 12 is spring loaded and the other fixed. The bricks are placed one behind the other on a conveyer 10, passed between the plates 11, 12, roughened at 13 by a saw-tooth scraper or a wire brush, watered at 14, roughened again at 15 by brushes or jets of air or steam, watered again at 16, sanded at 20 and passed under a smooth, oblique roller 34 and between side rolles 45. Resilient pressure is applied to the rollers. Sand is spread over the sides of the bricks by resiliently-mounted spreader plates 31 to which the sand is fed by brushes 29. The conveyer 10 may carry the bricks right through the apparatus.
