Abstract
597,264. Folding perambulators. MORRIS, A. (Cornish, H. E.). Oct. 18, 1945, No. 27296. [Class 108 (i)] The frame of a folding baby carriage comprises two metal side frames formed as rigid skeleton structures comprising channel section uprights 12, 13 secured to wheel carrying members 10 and carrying arm rests 14, the side frames being connected by collapsable transverse frames so that they may move close together. Each transverse frame comprises two members 16 pivoted together centrally and pivoted at their lower ends to the uprights 12, 13 and at their upper ends to members 19 sliding in the members 12. 13. The central pivot 21 between two leaves 20 of a folding footrest is connected bv a sliding link to the pivot 22 of the members 16 to fold with the carriage. The arm rests 14 are hinged at 23 to the uprights 12, 13 to permit upward movement of the members 19. The side frames are reinforced by channel members 26 in which slides a handle 25 formed of two spring strips united by a grip 24 and so shaped that when pushed into the channel members 26 they force the two sides of the carriage together to fold it. Catches are provided holding the handle in both the extended and telescoped positions so locking the carriage either extended or folded. A canvas seat and back, including a handle on the seat for facilitating folding, is attached to the handle and side frames. A folding hood comprises side members 35, 36 held apart by a breakable strut 40 at each side of the carriage, the opposite side being held apart by a further breakable strut, and supports a cover 34, the hood being pivoted at 39 to the carriage so that it may be folded with the carriage and then folded over the arm rests 14.
