[Class 37] A selenium rectifier comprises a base 1 of insulating material which may be a ceramic material with a nickel or zinc coating 5 extending over the upper surface and edges, a layer of selenium 3 and a counter-electrode 4. Alternatively, the ceramic plate may be perforated and dipped in molten selenium to which is applied an electrode on one side and a counter-electrode on the other. Lugs may be provided to support the ceramic plate and also the electrical connections thereto. In another form, the supporting plate may be replaced by woven or porous material.
