[Class 122 (v)] In a shaft seal assembly including a shaft 13, a sealing ring 2() rotatable with the shaft, a diaphragm 24 between said rotary sealing ring and said shaft, a spring 120 having inwardly looped portions 53 anchored on said shaft and a helical portion 54 extending against the diaphragm constantly urges it into sealing engagement with tl e shaft. The rotary sealing ring has a surface 38 in bearing and sealing relation with a stationary sealing ring 32.
