Abstract

A factice having an acetone extract value of over 30 per cent is made by heating soya bean oil with sulphur and a glyceryl ester of hydrogenated abietic acid at 290 DEG F.ALSO:A pressure-sensitive adhesive for adhesive tapes comprises polyisobutylene, a tackifying agent and a factice. Optional additions include natural or synthetic rubber, e.g. butadienestyrene copolymer; fillers, e.g. hydrated alumina, which may have been surface-coated with stearic acid, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, calcium carbonate, starch; plasticisers, e.g. mineral oil, petrolatum, lanolin, beeswax, low molecular weight polyisobutylene; antioxidants, e.g. alkylated polyhydroxyphenol. The tackifying agent may be ester gum, b -pinene polymer, hydrogenated abietic acid or its glyceryl ester or hydrogenated coumarone-indene resin. Suitable factices are rape seed oil factice and that made by heating soya-bean oil with sulphur, with or without a glyceryl ester of hydrogenated abietic acid.
