Abstract

1352802 Acrylic hot melt adhesives LUBRIZOL CORP 11 May 1972 [21 May 1971] 22198/72 Heading C3P A water-activated hot melt adhesive composition comprises a non-cellulosic polyhydroxy compound as plasticizer and at least one homopolymer of an acrylamide derivative of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or optionally substituted alkyl of up to 7 carbon atoms, R<SP>2</SP> is a divalent or trivalent optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, M is H or one equivalent of a cation, and x is 1 or 2. Suitable plasticizers include glycerol, sorbitol and polyethylene glycol. The preferred homopolymers are those of 2-acrylamido - 2 - methylpropanesulphonic acid and its salts. The composition may optionally include fillers, e.g. clay or chalk; antioxidants, e.g. butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxy toluene or sodium benzoate; taokifiers, e.g. rosin or rosin derivatives, hydrocarbon resins or coumarone-indene resins; lubricants; waxes; pigments; dyes; or flavouring agents. The composition can be applied to paper and other surfaces.
