[Class 59] [Also in Group XXII] A machine for comminuting tough and ductile materials such as magnesium, comprises a cutting tool or tools carried by a rotating head, and adapted to cut ribbon-like shavings from the end of a billet (.see Group XXII) which are fed to a number of pivoted beater blades 75 carried by the tool head 15. A casing 85 completely surrounds the head and is in the form of a spiral with a downwardly directed opening 81. A partition or screen 90 is provided within the chamber and a number of bars with bevelled edges extend across the screen at equally spaced circumferential intervals. The shavings are hurled against the bars by the beaters and are broken up into small particles which pass through the screen, finally dropping into a porous collecting bag 95.
