Abstract
592,096. Carding-engines. BRADLEY, J., and SQUIRES, W. K. March 3, 1945, No. 5369. [Class 120 (i)] In a carding-machine, the condenser, condenser doffer or equivalent member, condenser doffer stripper and clearer roller or rollers are driven throughout from a single point of power, take-off by precision roller or inverted tooth chains, so that the movements of these members are synchronised. As shown, the condenser 1, condenser doffer 2, condenser doffer stripper 3 and clearer roller 4 are driven from the shaft of the last swift X. Chain 7 drives sprocket 8 on condenser roller shaft 10 whence a further condenser driving sprocket 12 may be chain driven. Chain 16 passes round an auxiliary sprocket 17 and imparts reverse drive to intermediate sprocket 20 whence condenser doffer 2 is driven by chain 24. The condenser doffer drives, via chain 31, stripper 3 which itself drives clearer roller 4. Chain tensioning sprockets 27, 34 mounted on arms with adjustable counterbalance weights may be provided for chains 24, 31. The shafts of the condenser, auxiliary and intermediate sprockets may be horizontally and vertically adjustable.
