Abstract

598,864. Carding-engines. BRADLEY, J. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24485. [Class 120 (i)] In a textile carding-machine, a precision chain drive is provided from a variable speed gear mechanism to the eccentric shaft or shafts of a condenser, said gear mechanism being interposed between one suitable moving part of the machine or prime mover and the eccentric shaft or shafts. As shown, drive is conveyed to a pulley 18 from pulley 10 fixed on the shaft of the last swift 1 by belts 22 passing around intermediate pulleys 12. Pulley 18 is mounted on the input shaft 15 of a gear box 14, the output shaft 16 of which is connected by sprockets 19, 20 and chain 21 to a vertical eccentric shaft 5 which drives a second eccentric shaft 6 through sprockets 7, 8 and chain 9. Variable speed drive of shaft 5 is obtained by means of a precision chain 17 which connects one pair or another of a series of sprockets of varying diameter mounted on shafts 15 and 16. Sprockets 19 and 20 may also be changed, to permit further variation of speed of shaft 5. The gear box may be driven from any other suitable moving part of the carding engine or from an independent prime mover. Specification 571,386 is referred to.
