Abstract
591,895. Joining girders. GUEST, KEEN, & NETTLEFOLDS, Ltd., and WHITCOMBE, C. J. June 8, 1944, No. 10965. [Class 20 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXV] A clamping dog for securing together girders &c. is formed from a pressed sheet blank and comprises a short base 11 having a hole 13 for a bolt 16 and side flanges 12 which are formed at one end with stepped gripping surfaces 14 and at the other end with abutment heels 15. The bolt 16 passes through a hole in one of the members A to be secured and the nut 17 or the bolt head engages the flanges 12 to prevent it from turning. A lug may be bent up from one end of the base 11 to engage the flat of a square nut &c. or slots 20, Fig. 6, may be formed in the flanges 12 to receive the corners of the nut &c. which is placed between the flanges before they are bent. The abutment heel may consist of a portion 19, Fig. 6, bent from one end of the base 11. In another form, a separate U-shaped piece 23, Fig. 7, has side flanges 24 to engage the nut &c. 25 and has lateral projections on its base 22 lying in slots 21 on the flanges 12.
