Abstract

591,293. Windows and shutters. BROWN, D. March 26, 1945, No. 7599. [Class 20 (iii)] A window space contains an outer window a, a vertically sliding two-part balanced shutter k, and an inner window which may comprise two horizontally sliding glass sheets f. In the form shown the outer window comprises pairs of sashes sliding vertically in members c welded to the surrounding frame, and the sheets f of the inner window slide in felt-lined channels g extending into the heat insulated hollow steel panels of the wall. The shutter k may comprise two steel boxes packed with insulating material and balanced by a steel tape m passing over pulleys at the top of a steel casing r provided in the wall for the shutter, the two parts of this casing being closed by flanges t when the shutter is housed therein. When the shutter is closed handles hanging from the upper portion fit in recesses in the lower portion.
