[Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXI and XXIII] A hand tool for removing ammunition from the loading mechanism of a gun consists of two toggle-operated gripping devices a, a<1>, the device a having two arms each fitted with a pin f. which enters the base of the projectile hand the device a <1> comprising a complete or nearly complete loop for fitting over the nose of the projectile. The tool shown comprises a tube q having a finger grip s<3>, arms d, l, and stiffening ribs u, the arms being stayed by rods v and ribs w. Within the tube q is a spring-controlled rod p fitted at one end with a hand grip r and connected at the other to toggle rods e, m. These rods e, m are connected to the gripping devices a, a<1> which are pivoted to the arms d, l. In use, the device is inserted vertically into the ammunition guide of the loading mechanism and rod p is pressed down by handle r against spring pressure to open the devices a, a<1>. The device a<1> is placed over the nose of the projectile and' the grip r is then released, the devices a, a<1> then closing, under spring action, to permit the projectile to be withdrawn. Removable plates t serve to hold feed and holding pawls of the ammunition feed mechanism in their inoperative positions and a tail piece x moves in a groove of the feed mechanism to ensure that devices a, a<1> reach the proper parts of the projectile.
