Abstract

588,785. Reciprocating pumps for measured quantities of edible substances. ELVIS, W. H. March 7, 1945, No. 5637. [Class 102 (i)] A reciprocating pump for delivery from bulk of predetermined quantities of edible substances comprises a stationary main cylinder 1 with inlet and outlet ports 9, 10 in the cyclinder head, an auxiliary ported cylinder 13 rotatably mounted in the main cylinder with a piston 24 reciprocating in this auxiliary cylinder, which is continuously rotated by gearing 22 from the crankshaft of the piston. A single elongated port 18 in the auxiliary cylinder cooperates with the inlet and outlet ports which are arranged at 180 degrees to each other. The cylinder head is detachable and a spigot 15 on the conical end of the auxiliary cylinder turns in a bore 14 in the head. The piston stroke may be varied to adjust the quantity of substance delivered for instance to an adjoining pie-making machine.
