Abstract
588,702. Gas-blast switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and CHRISTIE, J. March 5, 1945, No. 5471. [Class 38 (v)] A gas-blast switch has its pneumaticallyoperated contact B prevented from moving until adequate blast pressure is built up in the casing A. Pressure is communicated by pipe F<4> to an adjustable spring-loaded valve F, which by exposing a greater area to the gas when the piston lifts off its seating F<6>, snaps back, allowing pressure to pass to the contact-actuating piston B' via port F<1> and pipe F<2>. The are thus formed is blown through an arc-resisting, metal nozzle so as to extend between contacts E, D, When the blast is shut off, a spring F' closes valve F, venting port F<1> to atmosphere via port F'. In an arrangement with two breaks exhausting through a common vent, Fig. 2 (not shown), two contact-actuating pistons are controlled by one valve to ensure simultaneous opening.
