[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] A reactance for controlling alternating currents comprises a core carrying one or more controlled A.C. windings and one or more controlling windings carrying D.C. derived from the controlled current, in which a permanent magnet having a high coercive force is inserted in the magnetic circuit to oppose or otherwise co-operate with the flex of the D.C. windings, thereby forming a standard of reference for the control.
