Abstract

587,242. Variable - pitch propellers. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. July 12, 1944, No. 13311. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1943. [Class 114] 'A ship's variable-pitch propeller is operated by a vane-type hydraulic motor 45 mounted outside the shaft, but rotating with it. This motor rotates a gear 11, the centre of which acts as a nut on the threaded shaft 18. Fluid supply to the motor is controlled by the hydraulically operated valve 64; movement of the shaft 18 reclosing the valve by the link 71. Electric or fluid gear motors are also described.
