[Class 64 (ii)] [Also in Groups XVII and XXII] The charging tube 10 of a container, e.g., the container of a temperature-responsive device of the fluid filled bellows or expansible diaphragm type used, e.g., in connection with electric refrigerators, is sealed after filling with fluid by maintaining equalized pressures of the fluid on the inner and outer surfaces of the end while compressing the walls together between compression members 15, 16 and concurrently melting a soldering material 35 by electric heaters 27. Tube 10 is sealed airtight in a chamber 13 by a rubber washer 17 compressed by turning a handle 18, and the compression members 15, 16 by compressible spring bellows 20. In operation the end of tube 10 is first inserted in a bath of solder and then introduced into chamber 13. Handle 18 is turned, valve 33 closed, valve 30 opened and a vacuum pump operated to exhaust air from chamber 13. Valve 30 is then closed and valve 33 opened to admit the 'charging fluid which fills chamber 13, tube 10 and the bellows which it carries. Members 15, 16 are then moved, e.g., by cams, and the heaters 27 operated so that the sealed end of the tube takes, e.g., the configuration shown in Fig. 5.
