585,188. Shafts. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd., and BROWN, W. B. D. Oct. 20, 1944, No. 20355. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A shaft 11 has an internal closed reservoir 12 from which oil is fed to the journal-, or thrustbearing surface of the shaft, through radial or inclined ducts 16, plugged with a porous metal 17 such as lead-bronze, copper-lead or other alloy. Plugging may alternatively be effected by coating the entire journal and thrust surface of the shaft with porous metal, or by terminating the ducts in axial or helical grooves in the shaftsurface filled with porous metal. A single filled axial or helical slot may be used.
