[Class 34 (ii)] Body-garments are air-dried or steam-treated by apparatus which permits a garment to be closed in its dressed position while air or steam is applied to the interior thereof at a pressure sufficient to cause it to permeate and pass through the single-ply portions of the fabric of the garments, means also being provided for directing auxiliary air streams against such double or multiple ply portions of the garment as shoulder straps and breast pockets. The apparatus preferably comprises a base 10, in the form of a hollow cabinet which locates an air-blower 12 and a chamber 13 which is heated by steam coils 15 and is provided with a top opening surrounded by a stack 14 which forms a support for the skirt of the garment, an upright post 20 which extends from the base 10 and constitutes a support for the button and button hole strips of the garment, a pair of cuff supports 24 which also extend from the said base, and collar supporting means 22 mounted at the top of the post 20. Clamping means 25 operable by a handle 120 is associated with the stack 14, clamping bars 42 and a clamping arm 80, operated simultaneously by a handle 37, with the post 20 and collar support 22, and spring bands 96 with the cuff supports 24. The arrangement is such that, after a garment is dressed on the apparatus and secured thereto by the several clamping means, the blower is operated to deliver an air blast upwardly through the heating chamber 13 and thence through the stack 14 into the garment. At the same time air is directed on to the shoulder straps by means of tubes 23 at the top of the collar support, and to the breast porket portions through the hollow arms 54 of a pocket drier 21 mounted on the post 20. The collar support 22, cuff cylinders 24 and, if desired, the stack 14 may be perforated to permit now of air therethrough. Steam may also be applied to the garment through a perforated distributing pipe, not shown, which is disposed vertically adjacent. the post 20 and is connected to the steam inlet 16 of the heating coil 15.
