Abstract

1,048,647. Finishing fabrics. A. F. PARIS. Aug. 12, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 31727/63. Heading D1S. [Also in Divisions A3 and F4] In a sweater finishing machine, the arms and shoulder portions of the sweater are internally supported on a frame to provide substantially the desired size and shape, and the entire waist portion is gripped and pulled to stretch the sweater while simultaneously the sweater is steamed and subsequently dried by a charge of drying air. The machine comprises hinged members 22 for stretching the arms of the sweater with cuff clamps 121 carried on outwardly diverging rods, and side creaser bars 26 co-operating with side grippers 70 for stretching the body laterally, the members 22 and creaser bars 26 being operated by a pneumatic cylinder 31. The waist of the garment is held by gripper portions 40a, b of a plate 40 which portions co-operate with outer clamping plates 59 and these can be forced downwardly by cylinders 90, the amount of stretch being limited by pins 86. Steam and hot air are emitted from holes 14 in a central support column 12. A collar and front forming attachment 110 is mounted on the plate 40 for vertical movement therewith.
