583,018. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. May 26, 1944, No. 19284/45. Convention date May 29, 1943. Divided out of 582,994. [Class 74 (ii)] A circular machine having a dial containing transfer bits and means for feeding yarns to needles in the cylinder and over the transfer bits in the knitting of a turned welt is provided with means for shogging the dial to displacethe transfer bits with respect to the needles. The dial is driven at the same speed as thecylinder by means of a gear 14 on the sinker head 2, a gear 13, and shaft 11, bevel gearing 15, 16 and shaft 17, and bevel gearing 23, 24- Normally a spring controlled latch 33 upon a plate 26 fixed to the shaft 11 engages a projection 36 on a collar 37 extending from the gear 11 to drive the gear 11 and dial. When the dial is to be shogged, the latch 33 is released by a pattern controlled lever 39, and an adjustable screw 31 upon the plate 26 engages a projection 42 upon the collar 37 to drive the gear 11. At the same time, the lever 39 engages a lever 51 to apply a brake 48 to a brake drum 46 carried by the dial. Specifications 582,994 and 583,019 are referred to.
