Abstract
568,265. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., BROOKSBY, E., and DEANS, F. E. April 27, 1943, No. 6659. [Class 74 (ii)] Wrap-thread feeding mechanism of the eccentrically-mounted type comprises feeders 18 pivotally mounted and selectively actuated by pattern controlled cams 31 so that they are moved outwardly so as to pass outside the needle circle. The feeders 18 have a slower peripheral speed than the needles. The threads are merely guided by the outwardly moved feeders 18 and are not passed through holes or eyes in them so that tensioning devices for the individual threads are not necessary. Thread feeders 18, 118 arranged at different heights may be provided, the needles being selected by patterning mechanism so that either one or other of the threads supplied is fed into the hooks of the needles. The threads are drawn from bobbins 26 rotating with the needle cylinder and are led to the thread feeders 18, 118 through slots in a guide ring 29. In a superposed cylinder machine, the guide ring 29 projects downwardly from the upper cylinder, and the wrap threads are knitted by the lower cylinder needles. The feeding mechanism may be used in single cylinder machines, and may be shogged bodily to increase the range of patterning.
