Abstract

582,276. Packing by wrapping-up. ROSE, A. G. and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. May 17, 1945, No. 12496. [Class 94 (i)] An article, such as a pie 11, Figs. 1 and 3, is partly enclosed in a stiff support of cardboard or the like in the form of a frame 12. A wrapper 13 of heat-sealing material is then applied, being folded into the form of a tube by bringing together and sealing marginal portions of the inside face into an upstanding longitudinal seam 14, which is then folded over on to the tube. The end portions of the tube are distended to bring the opposed walls together, which are sealed to form end seams 15 by the application of heat and pressure. The seams 15 may be crimped. In a modification, the distended walls may be pressed towards the ends of the support to form triangular tabs extending in the planes thereof, the end seams then being formed as above and folded on to the ends of the support, the tabs being folded on to the end seams. The support 12 may be in the form of a tray or open box. An insert 16 of paper or the like is incorporated in the package during its formation, and extends from the outside of the package through the seal 14 and round the entire inside periphery of the package. Slits 17 in the seam 14 facilitate opening of the package.
