Abstract

580,765. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). March 22, 1944, No. 5387. [Class 39 (i)] A gas-filled discharge device comprises an anode 17 and a cathode comprising an exposed heated filament 27 and a cold part 28 provided with an insulating film on its surface. The part 28 may comprise a tab of aluminium foil with the surface anodised, or coated with silica or barium carbonate. The tube is provided with a grid 23 mounted on a disc seal as shown. The filling may be argon at a pressure of 400 microns. The thickness of the aluminium foil may be 2 mils. The apparatus is shown mounted in an anti-aircraft shell and forming part of the detonating apparatus.
