Abstract

577,115. Tiles. PIPPARD, W. R. M. Dec. 31, 1943, No. 21897. [Class 87 (i)] Cladding units or tiles to be hung vertically from horizontal members of framed buildings to form an external cladding in which there are two thicknesses of unit over the whole area, comprise two integral plain rectangular vertical portions 4 and 4a, of the same length and thickness and bevelled at 7 and 7a, arranged so that the front face of the upper portion is in the vertical plane of the rear face of the lower portion. Along the back of the upper portion is a rib 5 having un inclined lower face 6 to facilitate engagement with a horizontal member of the frame, and a similarly offset extension 8. Each unit overlaps the next below it and they are arranged so as to break the vertical joint. There are similar units for corners, doors and windows. such as the rear head unit shown in Fig. 5 for use in the lintels of door and window openings, this being characterized by a rearward flange 14 at the bottom, and a window tile angle unit characterized by a short inward wing 21 and facing 22, shown in Fig. 7.
