Abstract
573,176. Alloys ; solder. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd., and RHODES, E. C. Feb. 3, 1943, No. 1813. [Class 82 (i)] An alloy for use in brazing or soldering, particularly for electrical equipment, e.g. fixing the steel terminals to the tops of the insulator assemblies of aero-engine plugs, consists of 1-45 per cent palladium, 0-4 per cent in all zinc and /or cadmium, 0-3 per cent in all of one or more of the metals nickel, gold, platinum and tin, and the balance copper and/or silver. If binary alloys are used, they consist preferably of 1-15 per cent palladium and 99-85 per cent silver, or 1-20 per cent palladium and 99-80 per cent copper, e.g. 10 per cent palladium and 90 per cent silver or copper. Preferred alloys consist of 1-45 per cent palladium, 9-87 per cent copper and at least 10 per cent silver, with, optionally, up to 4 per cent zinc and /or cadmium, e.g. 1-20 per cent palladium, 9-43 per cent copper, and the balance silver. Very satisfactory results are stated to be obtained with an alloy containing 65 per cent silver, 25 per cent copper and 10 per cent palladium.
